In 1999 the Solar Motions "Cascade Cruiser"
finished first in its class and 11th in the World Solar Challenge. After
qualifying second overall, the team suffered an accident during the beginning
moments of the race. Despite losing half a racing day repairing the car,
the team managed to pass 30 other teams over the 3000km race, ultimately
finishing on the same day as the winning team.In analyzing the race results
it is evident that we have one of the top solar vehicles in the world. To
improve the car for future races we are focusing on optimization in steering,
aerodynamics, batteries, and improved solar array efficiency. It also became
evident during the World Solar Challenge that our team lacked adequate logistical
support. By reusing the same car and focusing our efforts on these key areas,
we will have a significant chance of winning future international races |
